Miss O Connor's senior infants and 1st class
After an experiment investigating the best height for a ramp we decided to investigate what would the best material for the surface of our ramp be. We tested a range of different materials including sand paper, tin foil, grass, rubber, carpet, cloth. the children had to apply their knowledge from the previous experiment on how high the ramp should be. they had to communicate with their group in order to set up the experiment and to measure the suitability of the material. The children used a stop watch to time the speed of the car after it had been released at the top of their ramp. the children had to use their knowledge of time to decide on the best material for their ramp.
We all had great fun!
Miss Beecher's junior infants, senior infants and 1st class
Miss Beecher's class made scrambled eggs and
toast. Two of our pupils brought in eggs from home, which their hens laid that
morning. We looked at how the eggs change when cracked and whisked and then how
heat also impacts on them. We made toast and explored how the bread felt and
changed after being placed in a toaster. We looked at how butter also changes
when it melts onto hot toast.
We also explored how some of our groceries are placed in a
fridge and others in a freezer. We felt how cold a block of ice cream was and
watched a piece of ice cream melt after being removed from the freezer. We had great fun estimating how long it would take a piece of ice cream to melt, we then
had our own ice cream to eat, as a special treat!
