STEP 3 - Engineering

Because we moved into our new school this year we decided to investigate engineering by looking at our new building.

First we invited Dermot and Eoin in to tell us about our new building and answer some of our questions, they were very impressed by the questions that were asked and we all learned a lot about how our building came to be.
Dermot and Eoin were the main architects who worked on the design of our building, so they had lots of information to share!

When we finally got into our new building we invited Foreman Cathal in to talk to our classes about the building again, he spoke in particular about the energy saving features in our school and why they are important. Children  again got the opportunity to ask questions about the building and they had a lot more questions now that we are in our new building. Cathal had all the answers for them so again we learned a lot about our new school! It was great fun!!

STEP 2 Technology - SAFER INTERNET DAY

All classes took part in National Internet Safety Day again this year, a really important topic for everyone to know about, you will find the link for webwise on our Internet Safety section where there is lots of information on internet safety for children and their parents.

Children from 3rd to 6th enjoyed a talk from Brendan Smyth from NUIG who highlighted the importance of keeping safe while online and being responsible for ourselves and respectful to others while we are online.

3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th were very attentive as Brendan Smyth from NUIG told them all about the Importance of Internet Safety

Tuesday February 5th  was designated world internet safety day.

In the Junior Classes we watched some video clips on internet safety and talked about how we use our ipads and tablets.

STEP 2 - TECHNOLOGY - Coding with Brendan

We really enjoyed our talk from Brendan about Internet Safety earlier this year. Because our children are so eager to learn about technology children in 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th will take part in coding lessons again this year with Brendan starting on Friday 7th of June... we can't wait!!!

Children Developing our Blog - STEP 2

Gemma and Lauren updated our blog on Friday to show everyone the pictures of 5th and 6th class presenting and explaining one of their science experiments to the other classes.

Science Presentation - STEP 5 Sharing our Science

Fifth and sixth class put on a science demonstration on lava lamps.
First they demonstrated how to make a lava lamp.
They talked about how oil and water do not mix.
They added food colouring and effervescent tablet to the mixture to create a lava lamp.
Everyone was amazed.
Sixth class then got other children up to have a go themselves.
It was very exciting.
They made blue, green and red lava lamps.
Fifth and sixth came around to every class room and gave each class a lava lamp.
We really enjoyed it.
